The mbalax (or mbalakh) is a type of folk music and dancing very rhythmical very, of Senegalese origin. This is probably the most popular music of Senegal, based on percussion with the sabar and tama.


The sabar is a term of origin Wolof which refers to both a percussion instrument, a style of music, a sensual dance form (called leumbeul in its most alluring) and a traditional feast, in Senegal and Gambia .

As the term sabar is a generic term as a family drum up similar, which are an integral part of the culture of the Wolof, the Lébous and Serer. The sabar occupies a special place in the Senegalese traditional music and contemporary. The international reputation of sabar owes much to Doudou N'diaye Rose and music in fashion such as mbalax which commonly uses.
